In 2007, Artistic Director Alan Corbishley established BC Living Arts which has since become a unique Kamloops charitable organization with the aim of promoting and developing the creative process while broadening perspectives, inspiring creativity throughout the community, and making the arts accessible and beneficial to individuals in their daily lives.
Our public programming has been anchored in two concurrent category streams – “Performance Events” and “Living Events”. Our performances have their foundation in all facets of music including standard concerts in various genres, music/theatre productions and dance. To complement our performances we offer a series of living events geared to engage the general public in various avenues of creative development. These have included such areas as cooking, literature, music appreciation, gardening, photography to name but a few. We strongly believe in investing in our supporters and our community in ways that foster growth and interaction within the arts.
BC Living Arts has created many original and engaging professional productions (Satie de Paris, Metaxu, September Songs, Webley aWaits) and community-based concerts. In February 2014, BC Living Arts worked in association with Western Canada Theatre to present the world premiere of Silent Chap, a silent play written and directed by Alan Corbishley in WCT’s mainstage season. With consistent praise from both the public and the press, we are known for uncompromising quality. Our Canadian Cabaret concerts have not only garnered much respect for fostering and developing local talent, but have been ranked by the Kamloops Daily News with Cirque du Soleil, Bob Dylan, and other international artists as some of the top performances in the region. Along with our cultural education events, our unique approach to community engagement is something we are truly proud of as we are investing in the community, its individuals and their futures.
We have established a strong presence in the Kamloops area, with our greatest accomplishment being a consistent financial bottom line, which has kept us in the black since day one – no small accomplishment in this economy. BC Living Arts not only provides employment to many local performers, artists and experts, we also host international level artists while fostering and promoting local talent. Our programming is unique and fills many gaps within the local arts scene, providing a platform unavailable to many artists.
